Europe for Lovers Rail Tour. From Paris via Heidelberg, Munich, and Innsbruck to Venice, this Rail tour runs through the scenic Alp Mountains and it covers some of the most romantic places in Central Europe: Venice, Innsbruck, Munich & Neuschwanstein Castle, Heidelberg Castle and Paris.
The tour starts on “Day 1” with rail travels from Paris to Heidelberg. However, we are aware that most people would like to stay in Paris for some time. So if you let us know your exact travel plans for Paris we will be happy to add an airport transfer, accommodation and tours in Paris. Also post-tour accommodation in Venice can be added as well as extra nights along the tour, in Heidelberg, Munich and Innsbruck.
This beautiful vacation package includes second class Rail all the way as well as excellent rated hotels (see the tableau this is already included in the price of your tour). Day 1 Paris to Heidelberg
In about 3.5 hours you will travel by High-speed rail via Mannheim to the romantic city of Heidelberg. Since in Heidelberg the Central station is a little bit outside of the Old Town the tour already includes a taxi transfer to your hotel which is located in the historic heart of Heidelberg.
Your tour package includes a suggestion for a walking tour through the Old Town, a “must do” – of course – is a visit of the ruins of Heidelberg Castle which is idyllically towering above the Old Town located at the Neckar River. If you do not want to take the walk up there is also a mountain train which you could take. From the Castle you have a beautiful view over the city and the Neckar River. The historic Old Town is a lively city with many students living there. In your tour information sheets you will find a recommendation where to go for a typical dinner.
From Heidelberg Castle from where you have a beautiful view over the city and the Neckar River. From the Castle walk down into the Old Town or take the funicular down into town. Heidelberg with its historic Old Town is a lively city with many students living there. In your tour information sheets you will find a recommendation where to go for a typical dinner.
Day 2 Munich
After breakfast on your Paris to Venice Rail tour you will take the Speed train from Heidelberg to Munich. Munich, the Capital of Bavaria, is your next destination. Munich is famous throughout the world for the Oktoberfest but also for its location, close to scenic lakes and to the Alp Mountains. Your hotel is located in walking distance to Munich Central Station.
Where to begin when one wants to name places to see and things to do in this extraordinary city … which like few others combines modern life with lively history? There is Munich’s old town where 850 years of history are showing off, there is the Marienplatz (Marien Square) where three times each day thousands of people are spell bound when the world famous Glockenspiel (carillon) starts it’s beautiful song. Visit and marvel at the Frauenkirche, the town’s landmark; do not miss the Hofbrauhaus and find out why the Munchner (inhabitants of Munich) don’t want to miss out on their “Brotzeit” (a meal or snack consisting of bread, cold cuts, cheese and so on, usually enjoyed between breakfast and lunch). Visit the Residence, Nymphenburg Palace and Park, Hall of Fame and all the other sights in Munich which are included in your comprehensive sightseeing package. Many guests ask us about the option to visit Dachau Memorial Site which is located just outside of Munich. This can also be arranged for that day if you contact is in advance and let us know.
Day 3 Escorted Coach tour to Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace
Your all-day, escorted coach tour will first take you to Oberammergau for a photo stop. The coach will then take you to Linderhof Palace, the “Royal Villa” of Ludwig II. Visit this beautiful furnished castle and the park. Admission to Linderhof Palace and Neuschwanstein Castle is included in the price of the tour. The picture of Neuschwanstein is probably present in everybody’s mind but certainly for those traveling along the Romantic Road. Be prepared that reality will surpass all pictures and imaginations. Neuschwanstein seems to be taken out of a fairy tale! Seeing the castle from the outside is unforgettable, a tour of the interior, which was originally built for one famous inhabitant, will make the picture perfect! But make sure to take some time to explore the castle grounds. The view of Neuschwanstein from the bridge behind the Castle is like no other! PLEASE NOTE: if you have been on the escorted coach tour to the Royal Castles before it is also possible to change this to a different tour from Munich.
Day 4 Innsbruck
Speed rail will take you in a little less than two hours from Munich Central Station to Innsbruck in Austria – Capital of Tyrol. You will be able to enjoy a very scenic train ride since the train will take you right through the Alp Mountains – passing Rosenheim and Kufstein. Innsbruck is known as the “Capital of the Alps“. From Innsbruck Central Station it is just about a 10 minute walk to the Old Town where you find one of the highlights of Innsbruck: the “Goldenes Dachl“ (golden roof). Most of the sights are on the right bank of the River Inn, from which the town takes its name. Innsbruck’s boulevard and central pedestrian area is “Maria-Theresien-Strasse” which offers a nice street view with the mountains seen in the back. The oldest part of town, the Altstadt, is a small area between the river and the semi-circle of road known as the Graben (now a street, but once the route of the old moat that surrounded this part of town). Delivery vehicles are allowed down the cobbled streets at certain times of day, but otherwise pedestrians can wander around uninterrupted. A good orientation point is the Sprungstadion ski jump – built in 1964 for the winter Olympics – that sticks up rather incongruously on the southern side of town.
Day 5 Venice
You are booked on a direct train from Innsbruck to Venice. Travel time of your journey through the scenic Alp Mountains is about 4.5 hours. Your hotel is in walking distance from the rail station. You have all afternoon and evening to see many of the highlights: the Rialto Bridge which is the oldest bridge across the Grand Canal in Venice, St. Mark´s Square the principal public square of Venice, the Doge´s Palace one of the main landmarks of Venice… and many more!
Day 6 Venice
One of the best ways to see the highly pedestrianized city of Venice is by foot, where most of the top attractions are easily within walking distance. Enjoy a free English speaking walking tour (information will be provided in your tour information) and see some of the most famous landmarks: St. Mark’s Square, Marco Polo’s House, the Cannareggio District and much more. You’ll walk through history – from the city’s beginnings as a maritime power to the modern day sightseeing Mecca Venice has become.
Day 7 Venice
After breakfast your Paris to Venice tour ends. Please let us know in case you would like to extend your stay in Venice. It is also possible to add rail tickets from Venice to Rome and/or extend the tour by adding a stay in Florence (day trips into the Tuscany countryside, to Siena and San Gimignano, as well as to Pisa can be arranged from there).

I had never booked this type of tour before but I knew I wanted to travel by train throughout Europe. I was optimistically cautious because I didn’t know anything about to-Europe except what I read online. I have to say that EVERYTHING was exactly as they described, if not better. They did an amazing job of communicating every detail of the trip and had everything ready for us. The hotels were incredible and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at any of them if I ever return. We truly loved traveling by train and “to-Europe” made it happen. They even called me at one of our hotels when I emailed them with a question. If I am fortunate to get back to Europe, I will definitely check “to-europe” first to see what trips are available. They did an amazing job!!
This is the second time to-europe has organised my holidays. This time the group is 9 people. Truly appreciate all the details and special requests taken care of. Apart from the pre-packaged tour our extension was well put together with the usual precision and still good time given to explore each stop. The locations of the hotels chosen are most convenient and suitable for my kind of travel.
A big thank you to Thomas, Michaela and Diana for another good holiday. Will certainly recommend to others.
We are so happy that we contacted to-europe.com to arrange our holiday. I initially spoke to Thomas, who e-mailed suggested rail tours. We chose to go to Paris, Heidelburg, Munich,Innsbruck, Venice, Bern, Frieburg and Brussels. We were amazed at the amount of documentation we were e-mailed, and found more waiting for us at our Paris hotel. As well as tickets and accommodation and taxi vouchers, we were given suggestions of things to do and places to see. We were even given walking directions to hotels and maps of the area we were visiting.
The hotels were all extremely comfortable, well positioned and the staff friendly and helpful. We were very impressed with the train services too; all our connections went smoothly with no worries at all.
We thoroughly recommend the services of 2-europe.com, Thomas, Michaela and Diana thought of everything; it felt as though they were holding our hands every step of the way.
