Your Germany Vacation Package by Rail
It is easy to travel within Germany by Rail. Germany’s largest airport, Frankfurt International, has its own long distance rail station from where your Germany Holiday begins right from the airport terminal on board of the High-speed “ICE” train (with top speeds of up to 160 mph)! Please see more details about traveling by Rail in Germany on our page Germany Rail Tours – a great way of traveling! Your Germany Self Driving Holiday
Some areas in Germany can best be visited along a Self-drive tour. Along the 7 Day Gourmet & Castle Self-Drive Tour (7S03) you will exclusively stay in Palaces and Castles which are not accessible along a Rail tour. Find your Germany Self-drive package and travel along the Romantic Road, the German Fairy tale Route or the German Alpine Route, visit Lake Constance, the Black Forest and Bavaria, maybe along the beautiful 7 Day Bavarian Castles Stays Self-Drive Tour (7S01). Your Germany Holiday by Coach
If you have heard people talking about their visit to Germany by traveling on board of a scheduled bus line, they have most probably enjoyed a ride along the Romantic Road on the Romantic Road Coach. The bus usually runs daily from April to October in both directions along the Romantic Road and we have designed vacation packages in which a ride on the Romantic Road Coach is included. The 9 Day Romantic Road & Rhine River Cruise (9RC01) is a nice example. Please find a complete list of our Germany Vacation Packages by Coach by clicking the button below:
German Landscapes and Scenic Routes
Many travelers decide to spend their holiday in Germany along a scenic route. The most popular Holiday Route in Germany certainly is the Romantic Road. It runs from Wurzburg, located just an hour and a half from Frankfurt International Airport, to Fussen, located in the Alp Mountains, less than two hours southwest of Munich. The historic trade route passes medieval towns like Rothenburg ob der Tauber and it leads to the most popular sight in Germany: Neuschwanstein Castle. The Romantic Road has a lot to offer and if you are specifically interested in spending your entire or the majority of your Germany Vacation traveling the Romantic Road you may want to look at our Romantic Road Vacations by Rail-, Coach- & Rental Car information page right here.
Another beautiful scenic route is the German Fairy Tale Route. It runs from Steinau an der Strasse, located just an hour from Frankfurt International Airport, to Bremerhaven, located close to Bremen and Hamburg, right at the North Sea. Along the German Fairy Tale Landscape are 60 towns and villages where the Brothers Grimm collected their Fairy Tales: the Pied Piper, Cinderella, the Bremen Town Musicians, Sleeping Beauty and many more. Historic towns like Marburg, Alsfeld and Hamelin are along this tour, as well as Hanau, Kassel and Bremen. We have designed a variety of vacation packages covering the Fairy Tale Route by rail and as a Self-drive tour. A popular rail tour from/to Frankfurt International Airport is the 10 Day German Fairy Tale & Berlin Rail Circle Tour (10R04) which combines travel along the Fairy Tale Route and a visit to Berlin, where the Grimm Brother’s gravesites can be found at the old St. Matthew’s Cemetery. A similar tour (without Berlin) is the 8 Day German Fairy Tale Rail Circle Tour (8R07). A beautiful rental car driving vacation package is the 9 Day Romantic Fairy Tale & Berlin Self-Drive Tour (9S02) which also combines touring the German Fairy Tale Route and a visit to Berlin. A very unique tour along the Fairy Tale Route is the 7 Day Gourmet & Castle Self-Drive Tour (7S03). Along this tour you enjoy staying in three different Castles and Palaces for two nights each as well as three 3-course Gourmet-Dinners which are already included in the price of this tour package!
The Castle Road is a scenic route which starts in Mannheim (located 45 minutes south of Frankfurt International Airport) and runs via Heidelberg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Nuremberg all the way to Prague. Along this route you will find many Palaces and Castles. We designed the 7 Day Castle Road Prague to Frankfurt Combination Tour (7RC02), a vacation package by Rail and Coach, which can be booked from Frankfurt to Prague or the other way around.
Not along a scenic route but covering many of the most beautiful cities in former East Germany is a “Reformation Tour” following the footsteps of Martin Luther. Along the 10 Day Luther Rail Tour Berlin to Frankfurt (10R06) Germany vacation package you will visit major and medium size cities like Berlin, Munich, Nuremberg, Heidelberg and Augsburg as well as “off the beaten track” towns like Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Erfurt and Eisenach. A highlight of this Germany Vacation is a visit of Wartburg Castle.
The most known German Landscapes are probably the Black Forest, located in the south-west of Germany (close to the French and Swiss borders), the Upper Rhine Valley, located just an hour west of Frankfurt International Airport and the Alp Mountains, all the way in the south of Germany, in Bavaria, close to the Austrian border. The countrysides around the Danube and Moselle Rivers are also popular spots – not only for wine lovers.
German Cities and Towns
What are the most popular cities and towns in Germany? Berlin, the capital city? Munich, close to the Alp Mountains and host of the Oktoberfest? Cologne, with its Cathedral? Small, medieval towns like Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Noerdlingen? Historic Highlights like Heidelberg, Wurzburg or Regensburg? Cities located in the Alp Mountains like Fussen or Garmisch-Partenkirchen? Or Triberg in the Black Forest? Do “hidden gems” like Erfurt or Weimar belong to this list? Or cities in the North like Bremen and Hamburg? And what about Rudesheim am Rhein, gateway to the Upper Rhine Valley, Koblenz and Trier, Germany’s oldest city with its rich Roman history? There are many more to explore…
German Palaces and Castles
There is no doubt that Neuschwanstein Castle, located in the Bavarian South of Germany, in the German Alp Mountains area near Fussen, is the most popular Castle in Germany. For many a visit of the inside of this magnificent Castle, which is believed to be the raw model of Disney’s Cinderella Castle, is the Highlight of their Holiday in Germany. Linderhof Palace has been built by Ludwig II, who also built Neuschwanstein. Located in former East Germany above the city of Eisenach, Wartburg Castle is located. The room where Martin Luther translated the New Testament of the Bible into German can be visited there (please see details on our tour page of the 10 Day Luther Rail Tour Berlin to Frankfurt (10R06)). There is Sanssouci Palace, the former summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, located in Potsdam, just outside of Berlin. You will find more than 50 Castles along the Upper Rhine Valley, a Day Cruise on board of a Cruise Ship of the “White Fleet” is the perfect place to enjoy these magnificent views (the day cruise is included in a variety of tours, for example the 4 Day Castle Road & Rhine River Cruise Rail Tour (4R01) , or the 5 Day Historic Cities of Rhine and Mosel Tour (5R02)!)
